Good news for fans of artisanal coffee and baristas that dress like the Newsies: Portland, Oregon's Stumptown is set to open its second Manhattan cafe later this year on 8th Street, just a block away from Washington Square Park. The Observer reports the news, and notes that this will be the company's first stand-alone location in NYC (they also have an outpost in the Ace Hotel and a roasting facility in Red Hook), and their 10th store nationwide.
Last year, TSG Consumer Partners made a sizable investment in the coffee brand, which allowed them to expand in the area, and reps are hinting that there will be more new stores opening up in NYC sometime soon. A few months ago, founder Duane Sorenson said that there were plans for two new Brooklyn cafes, but who knows if that's still the case. Expect the new Village location of Stumptown to open in the Spring.
