The Friends of the High Line are currently seeking a year-round full-service restaurant to open up under the elevated park at Gansevoort and Washington Streets in October 2013. The group released a request for proposals for restaurateurs a little over a week ago, and today they extended the deadline for submissions until Friday, March 30.
The restaurant, which is part of the park's $14.6 million maintenance-and-operations building, will encompass 1,600 square feet, will feature floor to ceiling windows that open onto the street, and will be designed by starchitect Renzo Piano and Beyer Blinder Belle. So it's no small thing.
The winning proposal will be granted a ten year license, but restaurateurs should note that a portion of the proceeds will go to the High Line and the Friends of the High Line have to approve the menu, interior design and operational plan. This project comes in addition to Danny Meyer's Untitled which will open in the forthcoming Whitney Museum next door in 2015. Download the RFP here.
