Over the past week or so Park Slopers, or perhaps just their neighborhood blogs, have been abuzz over the imminent opening of Reno Provisions, a promising new barbecue joint from the owners of the popular Palo Santo on Union St. Via counter service, they'll serve whole hog pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and other specialties (all meat from Heritage Foods) by the pound.
The owner says he's fulfilling a need in a barbecue-deprived neighborhood, but soon he won't be the only one. Famed New York barbecue chain Dinosaur Bar-B-Que will soon open up about a block away.
Two years ago the owners of the chain, which began in Syracuse and has spread throughout the state and to the upper reaches of Manhattan, announced plans for Brooklyn and Queens expansion, and Ben Popken reports today that they've taken up a large warehouse space at 604 Union St. They're a long ways from opening, but Dinosaur reps will make an appeal for a liquor license in front of the community board on Monday.
Of course reps for both 'cue joints say they're not worried about the competition.
