According to a relatively new real estate listing, the original location of chef Eddie Huang's sandwich shop and late night favorite BaoHaus is on the market. And Huang confirms to Eater today that he is indeed shutting it down. Sunday will be the last night in business.
"We're not sad about it," Haung explains, "We kept Baohaus 1 open because we wanted to make sure Baohaus 2 was doing well, which it has been." Over the summer Huang opened a second and much larger version of his restaurant on East 14th Street with the ultimate goal of moving all operations there. Huang adds, "We really wanted a bigger space. We did all those Monday night special dinners out of BaoHaus 1, but it was difficult to set up a system to expand the menu." He says there's already been some interest in the listing and he's met with some potential new owners, but he wants to find something that's the right fit for the neighborhood.
Say goodbye to the LES Baohaus before Sunday, and stay tuned to find out what's coming next.
