Right after the economy tanked in fall of 2008, Wylie Dufresne's forward-thinking Lower East Side restaurant wd~50 started offering 50% off bottles of wine when you ordered a tasting menu. A few weeks later, they scaled back their hours to Wednesday through Sunday, and news broke that they'd laid off some cooks. Over the years, they've continued to earn accolades, and in May they finally brought back dinner service every third Tuesday.
Now it looks like the restaurant has officially weathered the financial storm. Today, reps write in that wd~50 will restore its original schedule on Monday October 17, and they will be open seven days a week. That's Monday through Saturday from 6:00 – 10:30 PM, and Sunday from 6:00 – 10 PM. They didn't even add a burger to the menu to stay afloat, and apparently Wylie makes a really good one.
