The upcoming closing of Monster Island in Williamsburg inspired this list of other late, great nightclubs and music venues that have come and gone. Included in the list are CBGB's, the Roxy, Wetlands, Gerde’s Folk City, Limelight, Studio 54 and the Palladium, all of which played an important role in the music and cultural trends of the final four decades of the 20th century. While Monster Island won't often be mentioned in the same sentence as these other venues, it did play a large role in the Brooklyn centric decade that recently concluded. [Flavorwire]
