Whole Foods to Take Williamsburg Artist Warehouse Space?

New, 5 comments

Williamsburg may not be getting a Starbucks or an Apple store anytime soon, but it could be getting a Whole Foods. The The Art Newspaper and the Observer report that the organic-minded retailer is rumored for the soon to close Monster Island arts center space right on the waterfront around North 3rd Street. Monster Island houses galleries, artists, musicians, and retailers in a former warehouse space that is set to be demolished in November. It's an area that was once desolate, even in the past decade, but could now make total sense for the grocer, given the newly occupied high rise condos dotting the waterfront and Williamsburg's increasingly affluent population.

Hell, if it doesn't open there, maybe a Starbucks and a Duane Reade can share the space.
