Where: South Street Seaport
When: Saturday, 10 AM - 9 PM
What: A food truck food fest featuring live bands, DJs, activities for kids, and cooking demos. The trucks participating include: CoolHaus, Frites 'n' Meats, Gorilla Cheese, Red Hook Lobster Pound, La Cense Burger, Kimchi Taco, and Kelvin Natural Slush Co. Admission is free, but you can also purchase a VIP pass for $50 that gets you ten tastes, plus a drink.
2) Bier Disco Kickoff at Loreley Williamsburg
Where: 64 Frost Street, Williamsburg
When: Saturday, 4 PM - Late
What: It's a weird one, but, this Williamsburg beer garden is launching a weekly party on Saturdays, with special guest DJs and an outdoor dance party. To kick things off, they're offering a free keg of HB summer beer early in the evening. The regular bar selection and sausage menu will also be available during the party.
3) New Amsterdam Market Ice Cream Sunday
Where: 100 Peck Slip, South Street Seaport
When: Sunday, 11 AM - 4 PM
What: The weekly market at the South Street Seaport is hosting ten different confectioners and pastry chefs for an ice cream throwdown, including Gabrielle Carbone of The Bent Spoon, Avery Wittkamp of Marlow & Sons, Meredith Kurtzman of Otto Pizzeria, Matt Downes of Steve's Ice Cream, and Ben Van Leeuwen of Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream. Anne Saxelby, Jeffrey Steingarten, and Gabrielle Langholtz are judging the competition. Tickets are $25 or $35 for early admission, with all proceeds going to support the New Amsterdam Market.
4) SHO Shaun Hergatt's Tomato Tasting Menu
Where: 40 Broad Street, FiDi
When: All weekend
What: If you're looking for an unusual fine-dining experience this weekend, consider SHO Shaun Heghatt's six-course summer tomato tasting menu. Hergatt is something of an obsessive about market produce and herbs, and he has prepared a menu that pairs various fresh tomatoes with prawns, quail, halibut, and vegetables. The dinner is $120 with an optional $70 wine pairing; (212) 809-3993.
5) Whiskey Sour Pickle Eating Contest at The Black Rabbit
Where: 91 Greenpoint Avenue, Greenpoint
When: Saturday, 7 PM
What: The Black Rabbit Bar, The Village Voice, and Brooklyn Brine are holding their second annual pickle eating contest. If you want to participate (there's a cash prize), sign up at The Black Rabbit before 7 PM tonight.
Also of Note: The weather's going to be great this weekend for both Smorgasburg (Saturday only) and the food stalls at Rockaway Beach.
