Flo Fab reports that AvroKO's East Village "colonial Asian" restaurant Double Crown, which seems to have been struggling lately, will close on August 20. Chef Brad Farmerie and his partners are keeping the space, and it will debut during the big fall openings season as Saxon & Parole. It will focus on domestic meats with influences from North Africa and the Mediterranean.
Says Flo, "He mentioned brined heritage pork with purple potato salad and quince aioli, steak with bone marrow béarnaise, and Maine lobster with grilled corn, sun-dried chili butter and fresh tomatillo." The name keeps the continuity of the race horse (and domestic meats?) theme and comes from "a pair of New York racehorses that attracted national attention about 100 years ago."
