New York City is home to a lot of restaurants, more than any rational human being can ever hope to visit. Among that number are hidden gems the majority of New Yorkers just aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's many food luminaries to share with us their under the radar recommendations for Dining Confidential.
This week, restaurateur superstar Michael White (if you're new here: Marea, Ai Fiore, Osteria Morini...) has some kind words for the Thai mini-chain Wondee Siam:
"Wondee Siam V is one of the best hidden gems on the Upper West Side. My favorite dish is the Duck kra prow – chili, thai basil, spicy chili sauce and steamed rice. I usually pick up take out, bring it home and squirt more chili sauce on top. When I have cilantro at home, I tear some of that on top too. They definitely make the finest pad thai out of Asia (there and Sripraipai). The pad thai has this amazing tamarind flavor, but not too sweet. I also order the green curry with pork bamboo shoots. All slurped down with an ice cold diet pepsi."
