Slowly but surely, Las Vegas nightlife is slowly starting to become dominated by New York's nightlife companies. That domination continues today as Eater NY can confirm that after years of rumors and whispers, Simon Hammerstein has finalized his plans and will open an outpost of the Box in a vacant space in the Palazzo. A Las Vegas insider confirmed the news to Eater last night. Perhaps it was the club's strong opening and successfully expansion to London that finally convinced them that they were ready to tackle Vegas, but it seems to be a perfect place to sell its unique brand of nightlife to the legions of tourists and conventioneers that pass through the Palazzo's doors every year.
The Box Las Vegas follows the mega successful opening of the Las Vegas outpost of Marquee at the Cosmopolitan and the recent news that 1OAK would be taking on the desert by partnering with Andrew Sasson's infamous Light Group at the former Jet space. As for other rumors that the EMM group would be moving into the former Body English at the Hard Rock, a company insider tells us that they are focused on opening Catch and Lexington Brass here in New York and are not considering any other projects at this time.
None of this should be any surprise, as the major New York operators have proven themselves capable of running highly profitable nightclub enterprises for over a decade, and that's what counts when you are taking over that much space from a hotel that is trying to pay off all of that debt service from the boom years. 1OAK is planning a New Year's Eve opening and the Box is expected to be open in 2012.
