Sister Restaurants Caffe Muzio and Stivale Temporarily Close

New, 14 comments

Just a few months after Caffe Muzio and the more formal Stivale opened to the public, owner Bobby Werhane has temporarily shuttered them. The restaurants opened mere months after their predecessor Choptank closed due to an unfortunate water leak in December, and now there's more trouble with the space. Werhane tells Eater that when they inherited the rear yard space, there was a building violation against it, and now that they have the proper permissions to take care of it, they're "addressing the issues" in New York's traditionally slow month. They began construction on the exterior last week and should wrap up in the next few weeks with the same setup and concepts but with a new outdoor space.
