1) Kings County Cookout
Where: 633 Grand Street, Brooklyn
When: Sunday, 3 PM - 8:30 PM
What: Sam Mason's laid-back bar Lady Jay's is hosting a BBQ cookout with live music from Eddie Clendening & The Blue Ribbon Boys, a rockabilly group featuring cast members of the Broadway show Million Dollar Quartet. Chef Lex Taylor will be cooking smoked baby back ribs, chimichurri dogs, potato salad, and smoked beans. Plates are $5 and include one entree and two sides. There will also be a number of drink specials (all $5 or under). Admission is free if you RSVP online.
2) Get Real Belgian Beer Festival
Where: The Altman Building, 135 West 18th St.
When: Saturday, 2 PM - 11 PM.
What: A huge Belgian beer fest with tastings of over 100 selections from some of the world's top craft breweries. There will seminars on subjects like home brewing and food pairings, and the space will feature an area set up like a European beer hall. Belgian bites will be provided by Petite Abeille, and there will be music by Jessy Carolina & The Hot Mess and Miami Cake and Donuts. Visit the event's site for tickets.
3) Cookout NYC
Where: Governors Island
When: Sunday, 11:30 AM - 5 PM
What: A massive outdoor cookout featuring food from King Phojanakong (Kuma Inn), Jimmy's No. 43, Blind Tiger Ale House, Earl's Beer and Cheese, Fatty Crab, Dickson's Farmstand Meats, and others. There will be judged hot dog and burger cookouts, and live bluegrass music.
4) Bastille Day at Bar Tabac
Where: 128 Smith Street, Brooklyn
When: Sunday, 11 AM - 10 PM
What: This Cobble Hill French restaurant and bar is celebrating Bastille Day early with food, pastis cocktails, live music, and what they claim to be "North America's Largest petanque tournament." They are expecting 80 teams, with players from around the world.
5) Running of the Bulls Menu at La Fonda Del Sol
Where: 200 Park Ave
When: All weekend
What: The Running of the Bulls is over, but this stylish Spanish restaurant in the Met Life building is offering a special menu all week, with dishes inspired by Pamplona. Sample three of their tapas for $19 (or for $8 each) plus red or white sangria for $11. Available in the downstairs dining room.
