Earlier today, word spread through the Twittersphere that wildly popular Bushwick restaurant Roberta's might be opening a pop-up in Manhattan. A call to the restaurant confirms that yes, Roberta's is coming to the Lower East Side, but not as a stand alone project. The team will be operating a cafe in the BMW Guggenheim Lab, a mobile community center of sorts led by an "interdisciplinary teams of emerging talents in the areas of urbanism, architecture, art, design, science, technology, education, and sustainability." The lab opens this Wednesday, August 3 in First Park on Houston and Second Avenue, and will run until October 6.
The menu for the outdoor cafe from Roberta's hasn't been released yet, but the website notes that they'll serve "fresh seasonal salads, specialty sandwiches, burgers, and summer ice cream." Last year, Roberta's did a similar pop-up at the Art Basel fest in Miami, and they operated a stall at the Madison Sq. Mark't this summer.
