Compass May Close to Make Way for Greek Newcomer Loi

New, 1 comment

The end may be approaching for longtime Upper West Sider Compass. According to new reports, the restaurant, which is just approaching its 10 year anniversary and underwent a massive renovation in 2008, is being taken over by the self-proclaimed "Greek Martha Stewart" Maria Loi. She tells Grub Street she plans on opening the restaurant as Loi in September and will serve "a menu of simple, straightforward takes on Greek classics: grilled fish, tuna in vinegar and honey, meats slow-cooked for seven hours..." When reached by phone, a Compass representative curtly said that "nothing's been signed" and would not answer questions about a potential closure. It may not be a done deal yet, but it seems like Loi is fairly confident of the transfer. Perhaps it will give Upper West Side neighbor and fellow Greek spot Kefi a run for its money.
