This morning, the MTA's Metro-North Committee voted to give Shake Shack initial approval to open a new location in the Dining Concourse of Grand Central Terminal, DNA Info reports. They will have to go before the full board on Wednesday, but this is a huge step towards getting the green light, which is either a good thing or not depending on which vendors or commuters you're talking to.
Committee members at the meeting mostly voiced concern about potential lines in a congested station and agreed they would have to form up the ramp towards the Grand Central Oyster Bar. Should the plans move forward, the restaurant will replace Zocalo in a 10-year lease with a rent increasing from $435,000 a year to $567,000.
Maybe next they can work on Penn Station and Port Authority, which could frankly use the help.
