Danny Meyer's ever growing fast food chain may soon join the Apple Store in the food and retail makeover of Grand Central Terminal. A rep confirms to Gothamist that they answered the MTA's request for proposals for a new restaurant, and the blog hears they're specifically eying the Zocalo space on the Lower Level Dining Concourse.
Just yesterday the Times ran a lengthy piece about the makeover of Grand Central, noting that old time restaurants and retail operations, which joined the terminal when the dining options were bleak and the site unappealing, are being increasingly replaced by shiny new operators. When a tenant's lease expires, it has to fight with newcomers to renew the space, leading to an influx of these attractive new operators like Beer Table, Tri Tip Grill, and (supposedly) the Apple Store, and now Shake Shack.
Now, who's ready for some rush hour burger lines?
