On August 31, 2010 at 4 PM sharp, Mario Batali, Joe and Lidia Bastianich, and an army of chefs, salespeople, and check-out workers opened Eataly, the mega Italian food court and grocery store in the Flatiron. And things were never the same again.
To celebrate the occasion, the team is hosting a monster, and you can bet, pricey, dinner event. This August 31, seven groups of 40 people will pay $180 a head to participate in a "Dine Around" at the market's six restaurants (not including Birreria). On the night in question, all of Eataly's six restaurants will be closed to the general public in order to serve at least one dish and one glass of wine each to the 280 participants as they rotate from stall to stall. Spaghetti with sea urchin and caviar from the pasta station, Montauk swordfish from the fish station, and so on and so forth. So it will be a big, delicious, fun, communal meal or a potential crowded mess. Or, most likely, a little of both.
Get a reservation between 5 and 9:30 PM online or by calling 212-539-0204. The $180 price tag includes tax and gratuity. The menu is below.
