Renovations are underway at the Rainbow Room, the first sign of progress since the iconic restaurant and ballroom closed to the public in 2009. Building permits have been issued for "demolition of walls and ceilings, mechanical and electrical work and plumbing" as well as replacing the windows and fixing up the kitchen. Landlord Tishman Speyer has yet to find a restaurateur to take over the space but they've hired consultant Elizabeth Blau to man the revamp. [NYP]
