The team behind multi-story Lower East Side bar The Delancey has signed a lease for a massive new 9,000 square foot space just a few blocks further west at the corner of Delancey and Ludlow. The two-story building has been mostly vacant since the building's owner started clearing the tenants out in 2009, when rumors began to swirl that the building was ripe for demolition. Now the Delancey team has snatched the space up, paying what is rumored to be the most on a per square foot basis for a retail space on the south side of the street, and seems to be planning another multistory, indoor/outdoor space. Unlike its original venue, this one's roof isn't surrounded by residents on either side, which may allow for music to actually be played outside. That is if they get a liquor license approved.
