SmashBurger to Open First NYC Location Tomorrow

New, 9 comments

Cultlishly loved Denver-based burger chain SmashBurger is opening its newest New York outpost in Brooklyn at DeKalb Avenue and Flatbush tomorrow. This is the chain's 106th store, but first in New York. And don't worry Manhattanites: according to founder Tom Ryan at a soft opening today, the chain is looking to expand in all directions: Brooklyn, Long Island, Westchester, and, real estate willing, Manhattan.

The concept may rival Shake Shack's current burger reign, with a similar focus on quality juicy meat with a casual dining atmosphere and reasonable prices. Each SmashBurger has a regional concept burger, with Brooklyn's opening featuring a Brooklyn Burger on pretzel bun with Swiss cheese and pastrami. Plus there are theme burgers like the Spicy Baha (pepper jack, guac, chipotle mayo, and fresh jalapeños) and BBQ, Bacon and Cheese.

SmashBurger distinguishes itself in its methodology: every burger is smashed, seasoned and seared on the grill, and they use a flat grill to retain spices and juices. This new SmashBurger will serve Brooklyn Brewery beer in chilled mugs (though none on tap) and a number of candy-filled Haagen Daas ice cream shakes.

With the cult following it already has across the country, SmashBurger could easily become the outerborough Shake Shack. That is...until Shake Shack opens nearby later this year.
