MePa's Valbella in Talks for Former Alto Space

Italian cuisine shall be served once again at 11 East 53rd Street. The Cuozz reports that the owners of Meatpacking District Northern Italian restaurant Valbella (an offshoot of the original in Greenwich, CT) are in talks with Tishman Speyer to take over the defunct Alto space on East 53rd Street. The high-end Italian restaurant, one of the jewels in the Michael White/Chris Cannon crown, closed abruptly earlier this year four months after the two partners split acrimoniously. As Cuozzo notes, the space is not an easy one. It spans two levels and is somewhat hidden from the street.
