After Months Of Waiting, Westway Finally Opens For Business

After months and months of waiting, Westway, New York's newest hot spot, finally (soft) opened for business this past weekend. Owned by Matt Kliegman and Carlos Quirarte from the Smile and set in a former strip club just off the West Side Highway, Westway was originally slated to open no later than Fashion Week in February. But Kliegman and Quirarte had to endure a lengthy battle with local community groups before it finally got its license approved, and then it had to go through another month of City permitting before it was ready to open.

Unlike other nightlife venues that recently opened and like the days of old, Westway chose to go without the big event, letting the news quietly spread late Saturday about that night's stealth event. A tipster reports that the venue's layout is a bit awkward, but it has a great dance floor area and a nice collection of couches behind DJ booth for hanging out. Expect a very slow roll out during the summer, and word is that Angelo Bianchi of Rubirosa and the Jane will be moving down to handle to door duties.
