Cantina by Cascabel Replaces Mahjong Dumpling

New, 2 comments

Mahjong Dumpling, the five month-old dumpling and small plates spot from the owners of Cascabel Taqueria in their former space on 2nd Avenue and 80th Street, was met with mixed reviews from the locals and the dumpling fanatics and an early defection from its chef. So it's not huge surprise to learn the folks at Cascabel have returned to what they know best. They will officially open Cantina by Cascabel in the space tonight after a weekend of soft opening trial runs.

How does the cantina differ from the taqueria? Well, for one there are no tacos. Here the menu focuses on a series of salads (corn bread panzanella, "sandia" salad with watermelon and cojita cheese), sandwiches (burgers, dogs, sloppy joes all topped with Mexican accoutrements), ceviches, pinchos, and sides life grilled corn and plantains. Also, frozen margaritas! Download a PDF of the menu here and find more info on their website.
