Nine months after Mario Batali's Italian megamart and food court Eataly opened to the public, the Little Italy Merchants Association is realizing the hugely successful destination is a real threat. And they're trying to get defecting customers to come back.
In a Post piece today Little Italy business owners reveal business from locals has dropped off since last summer, and they hope people will return for their lower prices and mom-and-pop feel. But then the locals go and say something like this: "The stuff is definitely presented better here. And it's a better atmosphere. When I think of Little Italy, I think it's a little dirty, grimy, it's hot and smelly."
