Earlier this week, the owners of Carroll Gardens Southern food restaurant Seersucker opened a new spinoff take out spot and cafe called Smith Canteen. Located right down the street from the restaurant, the Canteen will serve breakfast and lunch, launching with a pastry and a coffee program. The 14 seat space is pretty simple, with a white tin ceiling and tile floors—the original from the turn-of-the-twentieth-century pharmacy here before. On offer are items like rhubarb-strawberry jam muffins, strawberry pop-tarts, cheddar scallion scones, and Counter Culture coffee, with sandwiches, quiche, banh mi, and soups to come.
