Marcus Samuelsson Names New Executive Chef at Red Rooster

Yesterday, tipsters wrote in with the news that Andrea Bergquist, the opening head chef at Marcus Samuelsson's smash hit restaurant Red Rooster was no longer in the kitchen. Bergquist was the chef at the ill-fated Samuelsson project Merkato 55, which opened in early 2008 and slowly and eventually closed in 2009, and he enlisted her once again for his new project.

Now she's moving on (to parts unknown), and Michael Garrett, a chef who has been with Samuelsson for eight years, is taking the reigns. In a statement, Samuelsson calls Garrett "an ideal candidate to lead our kitchen" and thanks Bergquist "for her immense contribution to the restaurant’s opening." Garret has done stints at Aquavit, Merkato 55, Morrell Wine Bar and Café, and the very short-lived Trigo.
