Michael Huynh's Baotique Closes After Two Months

New, 14 comments

Some sad news today from within the ever-evolving Michael Bao Huynh restaurant empire: the chef confirms that Baotique, the slightly upscale Vietnamese concept inside of the Covet space in Midtown, is no more. The project opened back in February as an attempt to turn the first floor of the nightclub space into an attraction of its own.

According to Bao, the Covet team never really got behind the restaurant enough to let it flourish, refusing to put a sign out front or open up during the day to catch some of the Midtown lunch crowd. Bao also notes that he was just hired as a consultant, and wanted to make it work, but that there were problems beyond his control. He hints that Covet might be shuttered sometime soon, too.

As we know, some Bao projects are just not meant for this world. But, on the bright side, we can still look forward to Bao & Bunny, his East Village fried chicken shack with Playboy Bunny Nicole Van Croft.
