A little birdie, or three, reveals that Sam Sifton is reviewing Gotham Hotel restaurant Tenpenny today. It's somewhat of a surprise, given it's a small restaurant in a windowless room at the back of a narrow hotel on a side street in Midtown. But folks online have been raving about the food, Chef Chris Cipollone shows some serious potential, and Ryan Sutton of Bloomberg said of the place last week, "This is the kind of place that would be declared the next Torrisi if it were located in a shiny Mulberry storefront."
So, will it be a nice solid one, shining light on a place with solid food that deserves some attention? Or perhaps Sifty will surprise the crowd with a two spot. He could always pull a Pete Wells and drop a zero grenade out of nowhere. Our money's on the onespot, but please, place all bets below. [Tenpenny; by 8 PM, NYT]
