Today Steve Cuozzo reports that UWS Nuevo-Latino staple and drunk-shopping favorite Calle Ocho is moving next year. The restaurant has been at 446 Columbus Avenue since 1998, but it recently signed a lease in the old eighty-one space in the Excelsior Hotel just a block and a half away at 45 W. 81st St.
The restaurant will stay open in the Columbus Ave location till the end of 2011. No word yet on what the terms of their new lease are, but owner Jeff Kadish notes that he was "kind of keeping it under wraps," until a liquor license application on the door of the new space gave it away. This is of course great news for bored patrons of the Museum of Natural History who will now be able to walk directly across the street to get those chips, gaucamole, and margaritas.
