Burger and fries, miso black cod, pork belly steamed bun, shrimp tempura taco, beet and goat cheese tartare, spicy crab roll. Is that a list of all of the menu items that have gone in and out of fashion over the last five years? Perhaps. But it's also an excerpt from the menu at Co-Op Food & Drink, the latest iteration of the restaurant at The Hotel on Rivington. It opens on Thursday.
Previously home to the ill-fated THOR and the iller-fated Levant East, the hotel's restaurant space is now outfitted with dark leather banquettes, a large communal table, and dozens of over-sized Poloroids of New York figures, including Moby, Jay McInerney, Katz's owner Fred Austin, and Debbie Harry. Co-Op is one of four promised concepts from Alan Philips and the Guerrilla Culinary Brigade, which up until now were known for putting on pop-up dinners. Reps explain that the hodge-podge of a menu offers "globally inspired cuisine that is locally sourced and meant to be shared." Take a look around above and see the menu below.
