Today, chef Julian Medina (Toloache, Yerba Buena) opens Coppelia, a 24-hour Cuban luncheonette serving Nuevo-Latino comfort food in Chelsea. As with any good diner, they serve breakfast all day, offering plates like huevos rancheros, blue corn meal pancakes, and Latin American pastries. For lunch an dinner, they have soups, salads, spicy wings, enchiladas, yucca croquettes filled with beef picadillo, roasted pork sandwiches, cubanos, and burgers.
And no luncheonette would be complete without pastries. Here, Pichet Ong heads up that department as the consulting pastry chef, offering items like chocolate dipped churros, yerba mate shortbread, and tres leches torrijas. Go check it out, and make sure to send early word this way.
