At around 9:30 AM, reports started hitting the twitter of upwards of nine firetrucks on the scene at the corner of Prince and Lafayette, and this Neighborhoodr post reveals they were there to fight a blaze at trendy Soho restaurant Delicatessen. The Fire Department dispatcher tweeted the ominous, "...LAFAYETTE ST at PRINCE ST all hands working fire in restaurant doubtful will hold..." while @ juz10cross posted a photo of chefs idling outside McNally Robinson waiting for the FDNY to do their work.
Luckily, the fire was relatively minor and no one was hurt. Chef Michael Ferraro explains to Eater that a crew was working on the AC system last night and finished this morning. Shortly after they left, workers in the restaurant smelled smoke and called the Fire Dept, and by the time they arrived, a small fire had broken out. The ceiling is ripped up and the place is flooded, but they are working to get everything cleaned up. "We will be closed today for sure and possibly tomorrow," he says. For the sake of Burger Week, we're glad those cheeseburger spring rolls will be back in action soon.
