The Rum House is no longer the only game in Midtown for a high-end cocktail in a once shabby setting. Please meet Lantern's Keep, the newly revamped bar and lounge location within the Iroquois Hotel on 44th Street, open since Monday. Meaghan Dorman, head bartender at downtown cocktail spot Raines Law Room, is in charge of the beverage program here and created a cocktail list meant to evoke 1920's Europe, "when temperance drove American bartenders abroad." So there's the Poet's Dream (gin, dry vermouth, Benedictine and orange bitters), the Maison Charles (muddled mint, lime juice and white rum), and the Boulevardier (Bourbon, Campari and sweet vermouth served on a rock). Cocktails run $14 a piece but are made with four different types of ice, so, you know, totally worth it.
To accompany the drinks, there's a menu of small plates including fried chicken liver crostini, seared scallops, and butternut squash wontons. Check out the menus below.
