- Jack Dempsey's Broadway Restaurant: This popular steakhouse on Broadway between 49th and 50th was owned by heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Dempsey. It opened in 1935 and closed in 1974. [
- La Fonda Del Sol: Artist Alexander Girard designed the matchbooks for this splashy Spanish restaurant in Midtown. They were really popular: a lithograph of the patterns was purchased by
- Childs: A forties-era matchbook from the popular cafeteria chain, front and back. Most locations had pancake flippers in the front window, to entice diners.
- Lüchow’s: This German restaurant and beer garden had a century-long run on 14th. St. It closed in 1982 and the property was bought up by NYU, who built a dorm there. [
- Longchamps: A relic from the NYC chain, which was popular with the ladies. Most locations boasted slick art deco design by Winold Reiss. [
