Brooklyn Flea Starting All-Food Market, Smorgasburg

The Brooklyn Flea has become a huge destination for foodies. These days, you can get Momofuku Milk Bar cookies, oysters, Saltie sandwiches, and even mayo from Sam Mason. Because of the popularity of all the edible goods, today the organizers of Brooklyn Flea announced that they will be starting a brand new, all-food version of the market on Saturdays, called Smorgasburg. As the name implies, it will be held in Williamsburg, at the Edge site near East River State Park, where the flea currently operates on Sundays.

The team behind the project explain that it will help keep up with the vendor demand:

Literally, every week we get a handful of applications from chefs at top-shelf restaurants just itching to spread their wings by developing and selling their own specialty items. (In the last week alone, we've sampled mozzarella from a Jean Georges refugee and mustard from a former Tom Colicchio staffer.)
The new market will feature over 100 vendors peddling greenmarket goods, things in mason jars, and some prepared foods, too. The weekly event starts on May 21.
