Last month, Soho's Caffe Falai got 50% larger, when it moved into the space next door. Now, Flo Fab reports that chef/owner Iacopo Falai has an expansion of another sort planned for next week: Bottega Falai, a new retail/takeaway foods concept at 267 Lafayette Street. Here, he'll sell imported Italian goods like pastas, spices, oils, some produce, as well as loaves of fresh bread, and a few sandwiches to go. As for the design, expect the same shiny white walls and fancy chandeliers found at his cafe, and just a few tables. Clear lucite chairs are also a distinct possibility, though unconfirmed at this point.
Will Iacopo have more success with a retail/prepared foods concept than others that have come before him? Only time will tell. Elsewhere in the Falai-universe, Caffe Falai just introduced a new cocktail program, where the bartenders weigh your drinks in front of you.
