Today marks the start of the James Beard Foundations LTD pop up restaurant. For 27 days the James Beard Foundation will offer special programming, dinners from world famous chefs, and sweepstakes by their partners at their Chelsea Market space. The pop-up restaurant kicks off with Laurent Gras, formerly of three Michelin starred L2O in Chicago, and will continue with Michelle Bernstein, Iñaki Aizpitarte of Le Châteaubriand in Paris with David Chang, and David Kinch with John Paul Carmona.
And so far it's been a success in terms of ticket sales. Gras' week of dinners sold out in around 40 minutes. For Passover, chef Aaron Israel of Mile End is preparing a Seder, which sold out in 11 minutes. Mitchell Davis, the Vice President of the James Beard Foundation said they wanted to do a pop-up because it was fun, but they also hope people will get more out of it. They want the public to learn, enjoy and taste. And by the looks of the merch table, buy things.
