Jeffrey's Meat Market, an original tenant of the city-owned 70-year-old Essex Street Market, has shuttered, at least for now, as butcher Jeffrey Ruhalter regroups to figure out if his business is still viable. His landlord was going to raise his rent 29% but said they wouldn't if he gives up some space.
