Over the past few months, there have been signs of life at shuttered century-old red sauce joint Monte's Venetian Room in Brooklyn. First, there was paper up in the windows, then there were DOB reports that indicated that work was being done on the space, and finally, news surfaced that there were new owners who wanted to reopen it as "Dominick's on Carroll."
Now the Brooklyn Paper learns that new tenant Dominick Castlevestri is keeping the old name, and reopening the restaurant with a wood-burning oven and menu of "New Italian" fare and small dishes. And don't expect to the old-school dining room. Castlevestri notes: “We had no choice but to do a complete makeover because everything was rotted? We restored the original bar. We’re going to put in nice new booths and counters, and an open kitchen.” Montes 2.0 is slated to open later this year.
