Well, it was fun while it lasted: Fatty Johnson's, the pop-up cocktail and bar food concept in the old Cabrito space, is closing up shop this Sunday, March 6. The project, which opened in January, was always intended to be a place holder of sorts while Zak Pelaccio and crew worked out the details of the more "grown up" restaurant that they're planning for the space, which should make its debut sometime later this year. In its short run, Fatty Johnson's garnered some serious raves for its burgers, pasta dishes, and other hammy fare, and it also played host to a constantly rotating crew of hot shot bartenders from all over the city.
To cap things off, punch know-it-all David Wondrich will be back behind the bar on Sunday night (he was the first guest mixologist), and Micah Phillips, the pastry chef at Compose, will be creating some special treats, too.
Also, on Monday March 7, the space will host a Fatty Crab dinner, but only because they're doing some renovations at the original Hudson St. restaurant that day. So, basically, it's going to be a pop-up, inside of a pop-up — which must be some sort of first for New York. But after Monday, the space is going to be closed until the new project comes along.
