A few tipsters report that Ray's Pizza on Prince Street, which does not have either the word "original" or "famous" in its moniker but is widely believed to be New York's first Ray's pizzerias, was shuttered by the Health Dept. over the weekend. The results aren't yet online, but there has been time enough for a local to add his or her own thoughts to the sign.

Ray's opened in 1959 and is still family owned. Slice has said of their work, "I don't think there is an everyday slice more quintessentially New York than the one sold at Ray's Pizza on Prince Street." So, bummer. In other DOH news, Healthalitious on the Upper East Side was shuttered for racking up 78 violation points over the weekend.
