Troubled Promoters Resurface At Mussel Pot Restaurant

New, 17 comments

The opening of new mussel-centric Greenwich Village restaurant the Mussel Pot tonight also represents the return of Alex and Leo Baskin, the brothers and nightclub promoters who oversaw the Tavern on the Green Halloween Disaster. As a refresher, the Baskins allegedly sold anywhere from 4,000 to 6,000 tickets for a Halloween party before Tavern went bust, even though the venue's capacity was just 2,250. The party was later shut down by the cops. After promising full refunds to anyone who purchased a ticket and being hounded by 7 On Your Side, the Baskins up and vanished, further infuriating their Tavern patrons who apparently never got their promised refunds.

Now the duo is back as part owners and promotional directors at the Mussel Pot—which, by the way, features a patio and a waterfall—telling Steve Lewis that they will bring their unique "ability to create an atmosphere that people can enjoy themselves and feel comfortable in." Maybe you can bring your ticket from Tavern on the Green and recoup your money with free food.
