Chef David Waltuck, known for his work at now shuttered Tribeca standby Chanterelle will make his return to the New York dining scene at a monster of a restaurant on the far end of the west side. He's in charge of Ark Restaurants' new 10,000 square foot restaurant at the base of a giant 835-unit rental building on 37th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. The area is pretty much a no man's land right now—with one notable exception—but developers are confident new retailers and restaurants will follow suit as more of the Hudson Yards buildings are completed and filled. And if not, the Javits Center is always two blocks away!
The as yet unnamed restaurant is scheduled to open on December 1 and is described as "upscale, modern and very interesting." Thom Mayne, whose firm designed the East Village Death Star (a.k.a. the new Cooper Union building) will be the architect for the project.
