New York will soon have not one but two grilled cheese trucks. Naturally. But how about a grilled cheese restaurant? And how about one that is located in Astoria and all steampunk and repurposed and serving fancy coffee and craft ale?
Done and done. Queens couple Ben Sandler and Jennifer Lim will open The Queens Kickshaw—a restaurant serving specialty coffee from Coffee Lab Roasters, pastries from Balthazar, and fancy grilled cheese sandwiches—to the Astoria public this weekend. They explain, "...we have been living in Astoria for over 3 years, and have only started to see the food and drink scene really start to elevate. We wanted to create a place and community that reflected our love for the neighborhood, and our own passions for good food and drink." Beer and wine will come in the summertime, and that grilled cheese menu: it's going to evoke the cultural diversity of the neighborhood. See their progress over on Facebook or check them out on opening day on Sunday.
