Later this summer, a new (pretty progressive) retail and food market called Dekalb Market will open in Downtown Brooklyn as part of a megaproject Citypoint. Last week Curbed wrote about their unusual shipping container setup, but today we learn about the vendor details. The vendors will be divided into four main categories—makers, artists, farmers, and chefs—and vendors already include Joe the Art of Coffee, Robicelli’s, Cuzin’s Duzin, Nile Valley Juice, Mazie's, and East Village Filipino pop-up Maharlika.
More interestingly, the project will include an "incubator farm" run by local farmers that will serve as an educational resource for the community. And they're also promising space for eateries.
Also, for the creative types, DeKalb Market is hosting a contest. The person who can "re-imagine a recycled shipping container as shelter for art, commerce or agriculture" in the best way, wins a the container license rent free for six months and a $3,000 design/construction budget.
