New, 4 comments

New York City is home to a lot of restaurants, more than any rational human being can ever hope to visit. Among that number are hidden gems the majority of New Yorkers just aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's many food luminaries to share with us their under the radar recommendations for Dining Confidential.

Today, we reach out to restaurateur John McDonald whose portfolio includes Lure Fishbar and, more recently, Burger & Barrel.

"The roasted pork sandwich (or bloody roast beef) that they make at Faicco's Italian Specialties on Bleecker is by the far the most remarkable, and meticulously crafted sandwich spot. I know there are a handful of others that routinely steal the spotlight but the way they run that place is beautiful. So pristine and organized and everyone that works there makes the sandwich with the same passion and attention to detail, not to mention one of them could easily feed two people. It is over 100 years old and remains a family-owned-operated biz, something I just love to see."
