Peruvian Superstar to Open La Mar in Old Tabla Space

New, 18 comments

Reps for restaurateur Danny Meyer announce today that they have chosen a new tenant to take over the lease of his now closed Indian restaurant Tabla. Well-known Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, who owns 28 restaurants in 12 countries, will open a branch of his Lima-based restaurant and now international chain La Mar Cebicheria.

Folks from La Mar first hinted at a New York expansion when they opened the first U.S. branch of their cebichería in San Francisco three years ago. And last June, they flirted with spaces in the Flatiron District on 27th and Madison and also on 21st between Park and Broadway. But as Meyer's people say, "as soon as they saw the Tabla space, they knew they found the perfect new home for their restaurant." No word yet on when diners should expect the debut—for their previous space, they promised a Spring 2011 opening—but it should be a big one. In the meantime, read up on how they're doing out in SF and their previous notice to the community explaining their concept.
Update: They're shooting for August 2011.
