Michael and Donna: NYC's Most Enviable Food Couple

New, 15 comments

The newest issue of Page Six magazine features (another) profile of The Meatball Shop's Michael Chernow and his wife, Donna Hemmingsen Chernow. We knew that Donna was a Wilhelmina model, but did you know that she is also an Institute of Culinary Education–trained pastry chef, who interned at Le Bernardin? She actually helped develop the dessert menu at Mike's place! No time for that anymore, though, because she's always jet-setting around the world for photo shoots. But, someday soon, she might have a restaurant to call her own.

There's no concrete plans yet, but Donna says she would like her own sweets shop someday, noting "It would be a healthy bakery....probably vegan, using whole wheat. When I bake at home, it's always on the healthy side." They're both kind of health nuts, you see — when he's not slinging balls, Michael is running or doing "the martial-arts practice of muay Thai." For now, the two are just focussing on the new location of The Meatball Shop, in their neighborhood of Williamsburg. As Michael says "Meat balls are like the Yankees...They don't go out of style."
