The owners of month-old Prospect Heights eatery Dean Street announced on Facebook yesterday that they are parting ways with opening chef Nate Smith, a man who garnered the restaurant quite a bit of press due to his previous position as executive chef at The Spotted Pig. But alas, it wasn't meant to be. The owners write, "Nate did a great job of getting us started and his food was superb. We wish him the best of luck. Our kitchen remains open and we look forward to serving everyone the highest quality food and a great time!"
Speculation time? The Voice hears that "the owners didn't want Dean Street to be a fancy restaurant but instead a regular pub, putting Smith's somewhat refined fare at odds with their vision." Funny, given he is fairly familiar with gastropub fare. The Facebook statement may be a friendly one, but sources tell us this was definitely a firing.
